    Overview

Lucy Lawson (lucylawson.co.uk) is a London-based boutique recruitment consultancy specialising in the creative industry — placing designers, art directors, copywriters, motion and UI/UX talent into branding, advertising and packaging studios. As a small, specialist agency, their workflow revolved around deep, long-term relationships and a precise matching of creative discipline to brief. No off-the-shelf recruitment tool reflected how they actually worked, so we built a bespoke CRM around their process.

    The Challenge

Lucy Lawson's consultants matched creatives to roles using a mix of spreadsheets, email threads and memory. Candidate details, the companies they'd been placed with, the jobs in play and the applications in flight all lived in separate places, so no one could see the full picture of a candidate's history or a client's activity at a glance.

Creative recruitment depends on fine-grained taxonomy — disciplines, skills, industries, seniority, nationality and language all matter when shortlisting. Generic ATS fields couldn't capture that nuance, so matching still relied on a consultant remembering who was right for a brief.

As a boutique operation, the team needed to run the system themselves day to day without a developer on hand. Off-the-shelf platforms were either too rigid or too generic, and none gave them the control to manage candidates, companies, contacts, jobs and applications in one place.

    Our Solution

We built a fully bespoke recruitment CRM structured around sixteen connected modules — Overview, Candidates, Companies, Contacts, Jobs, Applications, Locations, Skills, Disciplines, Industries, Nationalities, Languages, Territories, Templates, Settings and a master List of Skills — each one linked so a change in one place flows everywhere else.

Candidates, Companies and Contacts are held as relational records, with Jobs and Applications tying them together into a live pipeline. A candidate carries their disciplines, skills, industries, nationalities, languages and territories, so shortlisting against a creative brief is structured and repeatable rather than remembered.

Locations, Skills, Disciplines, Industries, Nationalities, Languages and Territories are managed as editable taxonomies, so the team can evolve their own categorisation as the creative market shifts. Templates and Settings put communication and configuration in their hands, and the Overview module gives a single dashboard across the whole agency.
